Procedure
We are still working on how the parts fund will work, but here are our general goals for right now.
1) Funded by Donations
Right now we are working under the idea that Interlock should use its general fund to provide rent, electricity, and larger items for the space. Consumables are a tricky topic right now, so we're trying not to spend too much of general money towards it. However, there has been talk of voting to match the donations at the next business meeting, so all the money in the fund will be doubled. Double bonus!
2) We Buy What People Want
We need lots of little things to get working on projects: resistors, transistors, breadboards, solder, etc. Instead of asking every member to bring in their own supply, we are going to buy a whole mess of components so that people can freely take what they need. If someone wants something that has not been bought, they can talk about it and put it on this site, preferably with a link to the item and a cost.
3) We Charge Micropayments For Components
We would like to place a small collection can near the components so that when people use parts permanently, they could pay a small amount. For something like resistors, we could charge a quarter for 50 resistors, but for a protoboard, we could charge $2. This could help us keep money in the space and make sure we're not always asking for donations. This works on a replacement system, sort of like drinks in the fridge. If you take something that's there for everyone's use, you're expected to pay the space back.
4) Resupply Frequently
Hopefully we keep a small notepad and a pen near the components such that when you use a lot of parts, you could record it so that we know how much of what people are using so that we could resupply on a weekly or monthly basis.
