Roof antenna

We would like to install a 2M/400 antenna (and possibly others) on the roof of the Hungerford building, where Interlock is in the basement. We have the go-ahead from the building owners. We are in desperate need of contributions in order to make this project possible! If we are going to do it, we want to do it right. Ideally we will use LMR400 feed-line and build a free-standing tower that is capable of hosting multiple antennas for future expansion

Bill of Materials

• 2m/70cm J-Pole (donated by Alvaro)
• 200ft LMR-400-DB $192.00
• 3 pcs EZ-400-UM Connectors $45 (need 3 in case we screw up the crimping)

Things to figure out

• What do we use for a tower?
• What do we use to attach the cable to the building?
• Would schedule 40 be a good choice?
• Do we need to put a strobe on top? Even if we don't have to, should we?

Finances

• Ben / Bill have each pledged $50
• Steve has pledged $75

Construction

• Based on a site survey by Rowan & Steve, we need approximately 160-170 feet of cable. We're going to buy 200 feet to be safe.
• We are planning on mounting the antenna on a pole that would extend approximately 20-30 feet above the highest point of the roof. This is the stair tower where the north-facing elements of the Nextel cell tower are attached. We would be on the opposite side of these antennae.
• The pole would be attached in such a way that one person could tip it over for servicing
• Paul K2FX has agreed to come over and terminate our connectors with his special $400 tool. We just need to give him a call when we're ready.
